Sometimes works, sometimes not
By She wears purple
Comments about Hands Free Can Opener:
I've been looking for a non-electric can opener in case the power goes out. I've tried the kind with handles, but my arthritis and a recent broken wrist keep me from using one like that. So this looked like a winner when I found it in the catalog. I use a can opener at least once a day to open cat food, so I have to have a reliable one. When this one works, it's great. But sometimes it sticks, and I can't figure out what's going wrong. When it sticks, it takes a lot of pressure, which hurts my bad arm. Once it sticks, I can't use the electric one on it, so that can of cat food is ruined. I'd say it sticks about 1/3 of the time. At least the power hasn't gone out yet, but I have to be prepared.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is a great product to have. I can not wait to give my grandmother one for Christmas.
Will work with the right touch

I have had a couple of these openers (different brands) and they will work if you give just a little push upward on the back end of the opener as it goes around. It should be better designed so this is not necessary but it is still the best opener for arthritic hands that I have found.

Did not work for me
This can opener is a great idea, but the product did not live up to the expectations I had when I ordered it. The very first time I tried to open an average size can of soup, it started, then after going 1/4 of the way around the can it stopped I followed the directions using the manual dial to release it, but had to pry it off. It took several minutes to get it off the can. So I put a second set of brand new batteries inside, thinking that might be the problem. But I had the same results. So I tried a different type of can. I tried opening some green beans. No luck. My husband and I have both tried it several times with several sets of batteries. It does not work. I am very disappointed with this product. I would have sent it back, but I already threw away the plastic clamshell container it came in I only kept the instructions.

from modesto, ca. sent to indian tocks beach,
I sent this to my parents for christmas (their last one broke) and it doesn't work. Three different sets of batteries and it just groabs and stops. I am hoping the company will make this right asap. Would recommend ONLY if the company fixes this.

I loved it. But after using it two times, the third time was not the charm. It no longer works. Will return. It's great when it works: lightweight, you press the button a couple seconds and then it cuts the can on it's own, no sharp edges. If they could just get it to work. The writing on it "HERCULES" is wearing away after two uses. Improve the product please!
