Poorly contructed!

Comments about Tongs Reach Extender:
If it works it works OK but not very well. It looks like something a kid constructed in a garage. The long arm that activates the pincers constantly slips out of the handle rendering it useless. The pincers don't meet at their points, but often cross over each other - it's useless for picking up small items. I've had much better luck with those that have the rubber suction cups on the ends that you buy for $10 in any drug store. It's only redeeming factor is the small magnet attached at the end of one pincer that does work for picking up small metallic items, paper clips, a screw or something similar.

Cheaply Made!!!

About Me Arthritic, Diabetic, Disabled, Long Term User
Made in Taiwan. Can bend metal parts w/arthritic fingers. Little magnet stuck/glued to outside of the one finger looks like it won't stay attached long. No grip or handle on top of the extremely lightweight wooden stick part so its very awkward to pick up anything. However you can't see that in the picture. Good for light glasses & cups on top shelf but nothing heavier than that. No locking mechanism for fingers nor any type of hanger. Its actually 3in. shorter than my cheap one from a local retail store. For the price, you can buy a much better one in my opinion.

Tongs Reacher is better than most

About Me Caregiver, Elderly
I have had a tong type reacher in our home for my elderly parents for a long time and then as I got older and developed back and knee problems I began using it too. They are hard to find and I'm glad to find them here so I ordered two. The handle is easy to squeeze and much more comfortable to use than the pistol grip types, the very long length means less bending and reaching, and the rubberized metal "fingers" easily grip just about everything no matter how thin or thick. They are strong enough to pick dishes, glasses, and heavy jars from high shelves. However, I gave it only 4 stars because this current version is a little more cheaply made than the one we've had for years. I'd like the long metal wire and the wood parts to be a little thicker. When unpacking the two new ones, I had to bend the metal parts back into shape. However, this current version is adequate for its purpose and light weight.

About Me Arthritic
Don't expect much from the magnetic feature;it is just a little magnet glued to the side of a tong.

About Me Elderly
I bought this product to pick up small items around the house to avoid a lot of bending and stooping. It is very flimsy and part of the mechanism comes apart easily and has to be put back together. I'd rather spend a little more for a good quality product and would prefer a product made in the USA which this isn't.
Don't Buy!

Cheap, Cheap.
It's so good I bought extra ones.

I label my extenders. One is "Clean", the other is "Dirty". That way, I have a clean one to reach the dishes from the cabinets and one to pick things up from the floor. I had used this type more than 20 years ago and had it nearly 15 years. One of the reasons I like these extenders is that they will pick up heavier objects than the other types that are more expensive to buy. I've bought other types through the years that didn't perform as well or hold up as long. So, when I saw this in the catalogue I immediately ordered two. I will be ordering more to eventually have one for every room. These are the best of all that I have used.

I have been able to reach high up things without using a ladder or chair; much safer! I wish it could grasp some of the heavier things, but maybe that's another product!
Drop anything, easy pick up!!

I can reach and turn off the light, pull my walker closer. Pick up a book I dropped. Find a metal pin with magnetic.I may even try pulling weeds but I don't want to get it dirty. Maybe I need to buy another.
